This  taken while accompanying Don Emerson Sanchez to one of his forested crop lands. In these forest plots, members of small, rural communities along the Amazon River system plant and maintain both food crops and other plants used in their economic activities. In this photo, Don Emerson can be seen carrying a bundle of leaflets from the chambira palm tree which are the foundation for the handcraft economy in the community. In the distance, a mixture of managed forest plots and unmanaged forest can be seen.
